Skin

Little choices every day impact our skin.

As a teen, I battled acne. As a working professional and mother, I continue to battle acne.

Acne has been one of the biggest and ongoing struggles. Because of that, I have tried everything possible to find a solution. I've tried most over-the-counter washes and creams, prescription creams and gels, and oral pills that one can imagine. Starting in 2010, I finally found success with an easy regimen that I'd like to share!

My goal in life is to give back and share my success if and when I find it! I am not selling a product and would encourage you at the very least to talk to your dermatologist about what might work for you.

Although there are different types of acne and individuals are unique the following has worked really well for me:

  • Morning
    • Wash with CeraVe foaming facial cleanser
    • Let face dry
    • Apply a small amount of Retin-A-Micro cream
    • Finish with CeraVe facial lotion (fragrance and color free)
  • Evening
    • Wash with CeraVe foaming facial cleanser
    • Let face dry
    • Apply a small amount of Clindamycin cream
    • Finish with CeraVe facial lotion
    • 25 mg of Spironolactone - oral

The regimen is simple and takes care of both the red acne and the white bumps that prevent skin from being smooth.

Retin-A-Micro helps to smooth the skin by taking care of the white bumps as well as reducing the oil production. I've always had overactive oil production on my face. Although this doesn't take care of it all, it helps a bit. Retin-A-Micro is also a great topical cream to fight signs of aging. So that's an added plus!

Clindimycin is a topical antibiotic which helps to reduce the bacteria in the pores and on the face.

Spironolactone is an aldosterone blocker. This works to also combat oil production and has taken care of my red acne. However, this medicine is a  diuretic, so it should not be taken if you may have complications due to that. As always, this information is provided to help others with similar problems as myself. Use it as a starting point to talk with your dermatologist and/or doctor.

Also, finding a good dermatologist who listens to you and understands your unique problems is critical. If you are not happy with your current dermatologist or are not seeing results after giving it adequate time - find a new one!

Most of all, it's the small and consistent day-to-day efforts that have kept my skin looking better than ever in over 20 years!

What small things have you done for your skin that make a BIG impact?
